Cookie policy

The Dutch version is binding
This is a translation for your convenience. Only the Dutch version is legally binding; in case of any difference, the Dutch text prevails.
Read the Dutch versionThis cookie policy explains which cookies our website places, why we use them and how you can manage your preferences and your consent.
Article 1 - What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit our website. They are used to make the website work properly, to understand how the website is used and, if you give permission for it, to show relevant marketing. Alongside cookies we use similar techniques such as local storage; where we write "cookies" below, we mean these similar techniques as well.
This cookie policy applies to the SocialMediaGroei.nl website and to the client portal, and supplements our privacy statement. To the extent that cookies process personal data (an IP address or a unique identifier, for example), the principles from our privacy statement also apply to that processing, such as the legal basis, the retention period and your rights as a data subject.
Article 2 - The legal basis for placing cookies
Placing and reading cookies is regulated by the Dutch Telecommunications Act, which requires that non-essential cookies may only be placed after the visitor has given clear and specific consent. To the extent that cookies process personal data, the GDPR also applies, and your consent, or - for strictly necessary cookies - the need for the service to function, is the basis for the processing.
Article 3 - The categories of cookies we use
Functional cookies. These cookies are necessary for the website and the client portal to work properly, for example to remember your session, your logged-in status or your cookie preferences. Functional cookies are placed without prior consent being required, because they are necessary for the service to function.
Analytical cookies. Google Analytics 4 is used as soon as you give permission for it, so we understand how visitors use our website and can improve it. If you choose "Only necessary" in the cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 is not loaded and no analytical cookies are placed. If you do give permission, we have set up Google Analytics 4 in a privacy-friendly way: IP addresses are anonymised or shortened, data is not shared for Google's advertising purposes and the retention period for user data is limited.
Marketing cookies. As soon as you choose "Accept all cookies" in the cookie banner, we load the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) and the LinkedIn Insight Tag. We use these cookies to measure whether our advertising campaigns on those platforms lead to visits and enquiries, and to be able to show visitors to our website a relevant advertisement later. If you choose "Only necessary" or do not make a choice yet, these scripts are not loaded and Meta and LinkedIn place no cookies through our website. We do not currently use other marketing cookies, such as the TikTok Pixel; if we do so in the future, it will only be after the same consent and we will state it here.
Article 4 - Overview of cookies
| Cookie / service | Category | Purpose | Retention period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session and preference cookie (our own website) | Functional | Remembering your session and logged-in status in the client portal | Session up to a maximum of 12 months |
| Cookie choice in local storage (smg_cookie_consent) | Functional | Remembering which choice you made in the cookie banner, with the date of that choice | Until you clear the choice yourself or delete your browser data |
| Google Analytics 4 (_ga, ga*) | Analytical (after consent) | Measuring visitor numbers and use of the website, set up in a privacy-friendly way | Up to 14 months |
| Meta Pixel (_fbp) | Marketing (after consent) | Measuring advertising effectiveness and remarketing on Meta platforms | Up to 90 days |
| LinkedIn Insight Tag (li_sugr, bcookie, lidc) | Marketing (after consent) | Measuring advertising effectiveness and remarketing on LinkedIn | Up to 180 days |
| TikTok Pixel (if used, _ttp) | Marketing (after consent) | Measuring advertising effectiveness and remarketing on TikTok | Up to 13 months |
The retention periods above are indicative and based on the default settings of the platforms concerned; the exact period may differ slightly per browser and per platform setting.
Article 5 - Consent and the cookie banner
On your first visit to our website we show a cookie banner at the bottom of your screen with two choices: "Only necessary" and "Accept all cookies". Functional cookies are always active because they are necessary for the website to work. Analytical and any marketing cookies are only placed after you have chosen "Accept all cookies"; as long as you have not chosen anything or choose "Only necessary", we load no analytics or marketing script at all.
We store your choice together with the date in your browser's local storage, under the name smg_cookie_consent. That choice stays on your own device; we do not send it to our servers.
Article 6 - Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw or change consent you have given for analytical and marketing cookies at any moment by:
- clicking "Make your choice again" at the bottom of this cookie policy, after which the cookie banner returns and you can choose again; or
- changing your browser settings, as described below, and/or deleting cookies that have already been placed.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that already took place on the basis of the consent before the withdrawal.
Article 7 - Managing cookies through your browser
Besides our cookie banner, you can also refuse, limit or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers offer options for this under "Settings" or "Privacy and security". Please bear in mind that blocking functional cookies completely may mean that certain parts of our website, such as the client portal, no longer work properly.
As a guide, in the most common browsers you find the cookie settings as follows:
- Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari (macOS/iOS): Preferences or Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
If in doubt, consult your browser's help function, as menus and names can differ per version. You can also set your browser to notify you each time before a cookie is placed, or to refuse third-party cookies by default.
Article 8 - Embedded content and third-party cookies
In a few places our website may show content from third parties, for example embedded social media posts, videos or widgets. These third parties may, independently of us, place their own cookies when you interact with this embedded content or when it is loaded on the page. SocialMediaGroei.nl has no influence over, and is not responsible for, the cookies these third parties place themselves; for more information, consult the cookie or privacy policy of the third party concerned.
Article 9 - Changes to this cookie policy
We may change this cookie policy, for example when we start using new tools or platforms. The current version is always available on our website, with the effective date at the top of this document. For more information about the processing of personal data, see our privacy statement.
