LinkedIn Ads costs: what do you pay per click and per lead?
LinkedIn Ads cost more per click than Facebook or Instagram, but the audience consists of decision makers, which for B2B often gives a better value for money.

LinkedIn Ads usually cost more per click than advertising on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, with amounts that in practice can range from a few euros to well above ten euros per click, depending on your audience, your job title targeting and your sector. You make up for that higher rate with the quality of the audience: LinkedIn is the only large platform where you can target directly on job function, sector, company size and seniority, which for B2B businesses often gives a better ratio between cost and value than a cheaper click on a less relevant platform.
Why LinkedIn Ads are more expensive than Meta Ads
The price of an ad on every platform is set through an auction between advertisers who want to reach the same audience. On LinkedIn that audience is usually smaller and more valuable: decision makers within businesses, often with a higher business budget to spend. The supply of advertising space on LinkedIn is also smaller than on Meta platforms, which pushes the cost per click up further. For businesses selling products or services to other businesses, that higher price is often justifiable because the chance of a valuable lead is greater than with a broader, less business-oriented audience.
Realistic cost ranges
Some guidelines that often recur in practice, without being guarantees:
- Cost per click (CPC): varies strongly per audience, with higher amounts the more specifically you target on job title or seniority.
- Cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM): usually higher than on Meta platforms, which fits the smaller but more valuable audience.
- Cost per lead: depends strongly on your form, your offer and your landing page, but because of the quality of the audience it often converts better than leads from broader platforms.
These amounts differ per sector and season, and a fixed figure that applies to every business does not exist. We advise starting with a test and adjusting your budget based on the first weeks of results.
Which ad formats does LinkedIn offer?
LinkedIn offers several ad formats, each playing a different role:
- Sponsored content: posts that appear in the feed of your audience, suitable for brand awareness and expertise content.
- Message ads: direct messages in the LinkedIn inbox of your audience, effective for personal invitations.
- Lead gen forms: forms filled in automatically with LinkedIn profile details, which lowers the barrier to an enquiry.
- Text ads: smaller ads in the sidebar, suitable for a low budget and broad visibility.
For most B2B businesses, sponsored content and lead gen forms work best as a starting point, because they combine visibility with direct enquiries.
Advertising budget versus management fees
As with other platforms, you always pay the advertising budget for LinkedIn Ads directly to LinkedIn itself, never through an agency. In addition you can choose professional management of your campaigns: strategy, audience building, creative work and optimisation. At SocialMediaGroei.nl, LinkedIn Ads management is a separate service, apart from our Zichtbaar, Groei and Impact social subscriptions. With us, LinkedIn Ads management costs from € 599 per month, or 15% of your advertising budget if that is higher, plus a one-off set-up fee of € 449, both excluding VAT and excluding the advertising budget itself, which you pay directly to LinkedIn. We apply a recommended minimum budget of € 1,500 per month. These prices are the only prices we quote here; market prices at other agencies differ and are not presented here as fixed figures.
How to use the budget effectively
Because the cost per click on LinkedIn is relatively high, a sharp audience is essential. Targeting that is too broad wastes budget on people who will never be a decision maker for your service. Concretely that means:
- Target on job title or seniority instead of sector alone.
- Use lead gen forms to lower the barrier to responding.
- Combine advertising with organic content, so people who see your ad already recognise your profile somewhat. You can read more about this in our article about how to win clients through LinkedIn.
- Test different creatives and messages, and shift budget towards what demonstrably performs better.

How we set up LinkedIn Ads for you
Within social media advertising we build tailored campaigns: from audience building and creative work to lead gen forms and weekly optimisation. We report transparently on both the advertising spend at LinkedIn and the results it produces, so you know exactly what your budget is spent on. Newcom Research regularly publishes general figures about the use of social platforms in the Netherlands, which is a useful reference point when determining whether your audience is actually active on LinkedIn.
Common mistakes that waste budget
The most costly mistake on LinkedIn is setting an audience that is too broad in order to keep the cost per click artificially low. That often produces many clicks from people who will never be a decision maker for your service, which means the cost per actual lead still works out high. A second common mistake is stopping a campaign too soon. Because LinkedIn's audience is smaller than on Meta platforms, the algorithm needs more time to gather enough data for stable results; stopping after a few days rarely gives a fair picture of what a campaign can deliver.
Using generic creatives without a clear message for the specific audience also pushes results down. An ad that names a concrete problem recognisable to a particular role or sector almost always performs better than a general company message.
When is LinkedIn Ads worth the investment?
LinkedIn Ads is mainly worthwhile when your average client value is high enough to justify the relatively expensive cost per click. For businesses with a long sales cycle and a substantial order value, such as advisory services, software solutions or professional services, the higher advertising costs usually weigh up more than enough against the quality of the leads generated. For businesses with a low average order size, a combination with cheaper channels is often wiser, with LinkedIn used for specific, high-value audiences.
